Unvealing the Best Dressed for Met Gala 2019
When you think of extravagance, extreme, flashy, and bold-it all connects ties to Met Gala. The Costume Institute Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest event in fashion.
Founded by publicist Eleanor Lambert, the benefit was first held to encourage donations from New York's high society. Similar to the values of Diner en Blanc, the most elite are invited so in this case those heavy in fashion, film, music and art come together. Each year, the themes encompass everything from Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, to Manus x Machina, Punk: Chaos to Couture and China: Through the Looking Glass. This years theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” which brings out styles of the love of the exaggerated, the ‘off’ of things, ‘being-what-they-are-not’. As stated: “This is the Oscars of fashion where celebrities let their style evolve into one night”.
If you were like me, you were on Instagram refreshing every 3 seconds to see the next jaw dropping celebrity in attendance who perfected the theme. The top 6 were Cardi B, Janelle Monae, Billy Porter, Lady Gaga, Lupita Nyong'o, and Katy Perry. Lady Gaga had to have been the most entertained because she changed her fit four times on the runway all designed by Brandon Maxwell.
Take a look at the rest of the best dressed of the night.
