BRAND SPOTLIGHT: Anacostia Arts Center


Anacostia Arts Center is a home for the arts, culture, and small businesses, where the physical space is used to employ and nourish the local arts and creative economy. Within the Anacostia Art Center, community members will find our Black Box Theater, a café, and a lounge area. On our lower level, you will meet the entrepreneurs participating in our incubator program, The HIVE, dedicated to supporting and employing the local arts and creative economy. A haven to the art world of the southeast region, the Anacostia Arts Center has always created and curated a space for creatives like The Media Prince to be free, thrive and expand. The Center located on the heart of Good Hope Road, well now Marion Barry Avenue, holds the bar high for our art and entertainment scene.


The dynamic, to the success of the arts center is, its true mission to give a home for artists and creators alike, while providing an arena for us to experience Anacostia at it's greatest and finest.

Staying true to their essence in curating events, allow us to introduce you to two events the Anacostia Arts Center are hosting.


First being, The Sunroom, The Anacostia Arts Center proudly presents The Sunroom, a vibrant celebration of the Holiday season and the thriving creative community within Wards 7 and 8. In partnership with the Anacostia Bid, Far Southeast Collaborative, and Project Create, this exhibition showcases the diverse talents of over twenty artists.  The exhibition, hosted at the Anacostia Arts Center, invites art enthusiasts and the local community to engage in this captivating display. Admission is free, welcoming everyone to embrace the season’s spirit and celebrate our local artists’ exceptional talents. The Sunroom features an array of artistic expressions, including modern, 3D, and acrylic works by esteemed artists such as Brian Bailey, Kia Green, and Prelli Williams. Each piece explores themes ranging from family and education to historical figures and pop culture. This exhibition serves as a testament to the cultural vitality found in Wards 7 and 8, inviting all to experience a kaleidoscope of artistic endeavors. 



The event will feature DMV 35 Under 35 Alum and Mayor Arts Award Winner Brian Bailey & more!



















 

The second event being, The Umoja Market. The Market is a time for community to come together and celebrate the holidays. A full day of activities and shopping curated to spark joy. Activities include the return of Selfies with Santa, a Kwanzaa demonstration presented by Massalley Designs, and live music. Vendors include Status Apparel, Beautiful Brown Rainbow, and many more. "Our goal is to provide Black owned businesses and artists more opportunities to share their talents, products, and services with the entire DMV. The Umoja Market, our small business pop-up, also includes activities like Selfies with Santa and Kwanzaa demonstration. The Sunroom, our first community art show, features almost twenty artists.
